Piping text

Piping text is a way to pass custom text to the next question based on the option selected. Piping text is always limited to the very next page of the survey only. It should not be mistaken to operate like a custom variable.

Piping can be done by two methods:

1. Using skip logic: This allows to set a text of your choice based on the option being selected
2. Using Question Code: This helps displays the selected option text itself as a part of the next question

How do I set up piping through skip logic?

To set up piping:

Go to: Login » Surveys (select a survey) » Edit.
Select the question you wish to apply logic and click on logic.

On the popup, ensure skip logic is selected in the logic dropdown
For each answer option, set the If selected, Jump to question logic.
Add Piping Text this is the text you would like to display if that particular option is selected.

Click on Save Logic.
Now, go to the next question where you need the skip to happen and the text to be displayed. Enter ${piping_text} as shown in the below image. This tag will pull the appropriate text based on the option selected

How do I set up piping through question code?

If you only want to display the option text that has been selected with no additional modifications. Simply add the tag ${question_code}
A few examples to help:

1. If you want to pipe the option selected in question Q2 then the tag will be ${Q2}.
2. If you want to pipe the option selected in question Demo2 then the tag will be ${Demo2}.
